February’s Poem

Why

With a gun in hand and hatred in heart,

A bomb in a suitcase to tear a nation apart,

an evil act of terrorism,

we have to ask ourselves “WHY”,

so many young lives must die,

to ask for forgiveness in the sky,

a single word of declaration

as the world becomes at war between two nations,

but why such loss of life, why at all.

has hope for peace died, gone forever,

forever gone, forever more!

Why can’t we love our neighbours,

why must we go to war?

Someone’s father is someone else’s son,

trained to kill a stranger, trained to use a gun,

someone’s husband is someone else’s wife,

to defend his nation, to go to war to lose that life,

after the carnage, the death and desperation,

comes poverty, illness and disease to a strickened nation,

Those soldiers, sailors and airmen, brave folk every one,

sent overseas to sort out problems that never should have begun,

to take over a new government, a new greed,

for they cannot live in peace with only what they need,

as war is declared,

and life lost is shared,

LET’S SIGN A DECLARATION TO SAY NO MORE,

I GO TO WAR NO MORE, NO MORE SHALL I GO TO WAR.
